Benicia Ballet Theatre, Inc. (BBT) is a 501(3)(c) not-for-profit charitable organization, founded in 1991. It was the first ballet company to be formed in the City of Benicia. Its mission is to support and encourage local artists to develop their talents by providing non-discriminatory performance opportunities within the Benicia, Vallejo, Fairfield, North and East Bay communities. Inspiring dance productions serve the local communities by making quality cultural activities open, affordable, and accessible to all residents and visitors to the area. The purpose of the organization is to provide charitable and educational programs.
As a performance organization, BBT brings to the stage two major productions annually. For over 20 years, BBT has brought the beloved holiday classic, The Nutcracker, to local audiences in a high quality production for their enjoyment. The second production is in the month of June featuring a classical ballet and/or contemporary dance. BBT also provides and supports a Summer Dance Workshop as well as providing scholarships to dedicated dancers in financial need.
Benicia Ballet Theatre is proud of its collaboration with Solano College Music Department which provides live musical accompaniment to its on-stage productions.
Local artists of all ages may audition for any production during open auditions which are announced publicly. Participants in the productions are not limited to any specific dance school or organization. Some roles are not dance specific and interested members of the public are encouraged to audition. If an audition date cannot be attended, please contact BBT. All interested parties will be considered.
Our productions are inspired by the talents of our dancers. Company membership is available to those dancers with extended ballet training. This allows BBT choreographers to develop roles specifically for Company dancers throughout the year.
